Doran Motorsports Group, Southern California based F4 Formula Pro USA Championship team returns home with more hardware and a championship title after their successful weekend at the famed Laguna Seca road course. Heading into the weekend DMG had their sights set on accruing more points to keep driver Marco Kacic ahead of the leaderboard for the series championship and the team was able to meet and exceed their goals.
“It is DONE!” says Francois Doran, president of Doran Motorsports Group, “This weekend’s double win allowed DMG and Marco Kacic to clinch the 2019 F4 Formula Pro USA Championship with one race event to spare. A brand new team, brand new group of people, youngest engineer, youngest driver of the field and a Championship Cup that will now be sitting on our desk at DMG.”
Doran Motorsports Group and it’s crew did not achieve the results as easy as they had hoped. Prior to the event, Kacic had some financial difficulties that was preventing him to attend the Thursday practice day so he had to double up on the work during Friday sessions only. Kacic and teammate Alan Tang qualified respectively third and fourth place but they were confident that their results were not directly relative to the speed they knew the cars had for the race. Both drivers and teams of engineers got to work by reviewing data from qualifying to make the proper adjustments to the cars.
During Saturday’s race event both Kacic and Tang were able to progress through the competition fairly quickly earning themselves a victory for Kacic and third place podium position for Tang. This win put Marco Kacic on top of the podium for the sixth time of the 2019 F4 Formula Pro USA Championship Series. With day one’s racing completed Kacic knew that all he had to do was finish the following day in fifth or better to secure the title for the season with one more round still left in the series.
On Sunday, Kacic and Tang once again had to start from the third and fourth positions. At the start of the race, both drivers showed some great speed and found themselves running one and two. It was a very intense race with the third and fourth running drivers sticking right with the two DMG pilots. Alan Tang made a small mistake that cost him two positions but he was showing some excellent speed and started charging his way back to the top three. Alan went for a pass for P3 but it resulted in a spin. This unfortunately took him out of contention for the podium during Sunday’s final race. He was able to continue but had to settle for fifth position, despite having the second quickest lap of the race.
Marco was able to lead most of the race but dropped to second position when they encountered lap traffic with only two laps remaining. Marco could have clinched the championship by settling for second but he was presented with an opportunity to go for a pass into the corkscrew turn on the last lap. Marco made the pass stick and he took his second win of the weekend, seventh of the series, and captured the 2019 F4 Formula Pro USA championship in a truly victorious fashion.
Kacic goes to say, “Capturing the championship for Doran Motorsports Group’s first year competing in the F4 Championship really exceeded all expectations for the entire team. The DMG team is an amazing group of hard working and talented individuals and this championship was truly a team effort.”
With just one more event to complete the 2019 F4 Formula Pro USA Championship on the west coast, Alan Tang is only eight points outside of third place in the overall championship points chase. The team looks to close out the season finale with impressive results bringing home some more podium finishes.
The entire DMG team would like to give a huge thank you to their partners and sponsors in giving them the opportunity to prove results through the weekend. The team would like to give thanks to Electra Meccanica, Lancer Tactical, EAdg, Alpine Stars, Beta Tool, Arai helmets, Guisti Wines, New Balance Vancouver, LHM, Area 27, and their newest partner High Roller Energy Drink.
